Radio National Science Show: A planet in crisis.
We've known for decades this time would come because the warnings have been clear; a planetary-scale crisis is upon us.
Thus begins this item I recorded for the Science Show, hosted by Robyn Williams.
While there's a vague feeling that things are not right, few people appreciate just how precarious the situation is. Every indicator* shows that planetary systems are in crisis. What does this mean? On our current trajectory, our civilisation - the one that rests entirely on a healthy planet - will fail.
While that's a grim prognosis, it's hard to argue otherwise.
The question is, how do we respond, do we surrender to our fate? This is the theme of my book Ten Journeys on a Fragile Planet.

Radio Perspective: Of Violence and Redemption
In February 2006, I had my first broadcast on Radio National Perspective. Recorded in the ABC studio in Canberra with Sue Clark. We sat excitedly in the backyard, huddled around the radio to hear it broadcast that March.

A few months later, she emailed me, saying:

Hey Rod
Well I have received several lengthy emails in response to your piece. They have fallen into two broad categories.
The first is: and here's an example form a listener in Canada "The might-is-right attitude of many humans reinforces my belief in evolution, i.e. that man evolved from the lower species."

The second is: People telling me their life experiences and things that have changed their lives 'forever'.
You have opened the floodgates Rod!
Cheers
Sue
